Volunteer Opportunities There are four volunteer programs within the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office: the Chaplain Program, the Citizen Observer Program (COP), the Citizen Volunteer Auxiliary Program (CVAP), and the Victim Advocate Program. The Chaplain Program provides pastoral care, spiritual guidance, support, and counseling to the Volusia County community. The Citizen Observer Program patrols the unincorporated areas of the County in Sheriff's Office vehicles equipped with a radio, a roof light, and COP markings. The volunteers receive 40 hours of basic training and ongoing monthly training. They work in uniform, but carry no weapons, and have no police powers. The Citizen Volunteer Auxiliary Program provides professional, technical, administrative, and computer support to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office and the Courts countywide. Volunteers assist in the following units: Career Criminal, Communications, Court Security, District Offices, Evidence, Fleet Services, Historical, Investigative Services, Jury Management, Public Information, Records, Saboda Range, Technical Services, and Traffic Court.
